Description
A New Frontier in Neonatal Survival
Immediate breastfeeding with colostrum dramatically reduces neonatal mortality—but how? Join renowned experts Dr. Tobias Kollmann and Dr. Nelly Amenyogbe as they unveil a pioneering research initiative that combines cutting-edge pre-clinical models with expansive human studies to decode the life-saving power of colostrum. Discover how this breakthrough science is reshaping neonatal care and offering new hope for newborns worldwide.
Objectives
-
Understand the critical importance of the first day of life and the role colostrum plays in protecting the infant.
- Recognize the life-saving potential of early breastfeeding, including the World Health Organization’s recommendation to initiate breastfeeding (colostrum) within the first hour of birth (“The Golden Hour”), which has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of neonatal infectious death.
- Appreciate the global challenges surrounding early breastfeeding, acknowledging that only about half of newborns worldwide receive colostrum—due to a wide range of systemic, cultural, and clinical factors.
- Explore the need for deeper understanding of colostrum’s unique properties, and why, despite decades of research, the specific mechanisms behind its profound impact on neonatal survival remain unclear.
- Learn about an innovative research platform designed to uncover how colostrum works its magic.
