Foundational course on on best practices for lactation initiation and coming to volume in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
This course aims to develop a basic understanding of the benefits and strategies used to increase the use of mother's own milk (MOM) for vulnerable infants in the NICU.

- Describe how to apply informed decision-making principles to proactively support lactation care in the NICU setting.
- Summarize the evidence-based benefits of human milk for NICU infants, including its role in reducing the risk of medical complications and long-term comorbidities.
- Discuss the impact of early and frequent expression on milk production.
- Define the timeline for milk 'coming in' and target volumes to maintain long-term milk production
- Define oral immune therapy (OIT) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills to effectively administer OIT.
- Evaluate how to implement evidence-based lactation care strategies in the NICU.
