Description

Join our international speakers in the first of our European symposium sessions sharing insight and inspiration in Novel Advances in Neonatal Care. The lectures are followed by a discussion question and answer session with the speakers and our hybrid audience.

This session includes talks from:

  • Dr. Leon Mitoulas: The evolving status of human milk: food, signal and medicine

  • Prof. Marsha Campell-Yeo: How parent touch and use of mother´s own milk can impact procedural pain in neonates

  • Prof. Sarah Taylor: The point-of-care concentration of mother´s own milk – an alternative to adding fortifiers?

  • Dr. Titus Keller: Intranasal fresh mother’s milk as a promising neuroprotective strategy in neonatal brain injury

This program has been approved for 1.5 contact hours; provider approved by California Board of Registered Nursing, CEP 13692

This course has been approved for 1.5 hours CPD (Continuing Professional Development) by the CPD Certification Service.

Objectives

  • Explain the mechanisms by which parental touch, including skin‑to‑skin contact, modulates neonatal pain responses during routine clinical procedures.

  • Describe how the use of mother’s own milk—via oral, oropharyngeal, or other routes—can reduce procedural pain and influence short‑term physiological stability in neonates.
  • Compare current fortification strategies used to meet the elevated nutritional needs of preterm infants.
  • Gain insight into the emerging technique of passive osmosis human milk concentration, including its impact on nutrient density, bioactive component preservation, and clinical feasibility.
  • Describe the biological rationale for intranasal delivery of mother’s milk, including the role of growth factors and stem cells in neonatal neuroprotection.
